Olivia Rodrigo’s Debut Album Is So Relatable Everyone’s Inner Teen Is Making Memes About It

Olivia Rodrigo – who arguably has the biggest track of 2021 with Drivers License – released her debut album, Sour, last week, and the Internet has reacted accordingly; playing it on repeat and making memes about relating deeply to it all.
Interestingly though, the memes aren’t just from Olivia’s Gen Z peers, the relatable vibe is being felt across multiple generations, with early-gen Millennials/Gen Y (born between 1981 and 1985ish) even recognising that the things Olivia’s experiencing at 17 in 2021 are the same as what they dealt with at 17… in 1998.
Am I bordering on 30 and listening to this album on full blast in my car, imagining a shitty-ass high school ex-boyfriend even though I didn’t really date until I was 20? Yes. Do I feel wildly old and exceptionally naive and young at the same time? Also yes.
The absolute power of Olivia Rodrigo’s debut album instilling the energy of classically emo singers like Hayley Williams and Avril Lavigne has allowed her to smack multiple generations of listeners right in the ass of their hearts. It’s challenging the Internet culture of generations being against each other, especially as Millennials age and feel more like Steve Buscemi in his ‘Music Band’ shirt in 30 Rock.
Sour reminds us that at the end of the day, we’ve all been that angsty teen who’s navigated their first heartbreak.
And apparently our only response is to make memes about it.
So many glorious memes.
Just gotta post through the feelings, it’s the only way to go.
Here are the best of the bunch, because you and I both know that’s why you’re here.
Oh good, this is me. Like literally how did they get this photo of me enjoying a quiet pinot grigio last weekend?
Everything about these memes are pure perfection, and I feel all of them deep level. Happy Monday, I guess?
